Hi Marvin, Many thanks for the quick response. This is pretty advanced for me. Are there any risks to my system in installing a new kernal? And do I revert to the old one after the modem is installed? Can you point me to instructions for how to "Boot with your -2.6.24-19-generic kernel"? I found http://beginlinux.com/desktop_training/ubuntu/ubfile_m/ub_kernel . It appears that I already have vmlinuz-2.6.24-19-generic in my /boot and it's listed in /boot/grub/menu.lst . Do I just put that entry first in the list of kernals, save the menu.lst file and reboot? thanks again, Adam On Fri, 2008-10-24 at 16:16 -0400, Marvin Stodolsky wrote: > Adam > > get from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/ltmodem/11c11040/ > agrsm-ubuntu8.04.1-2.6.24-19-generic.tar.gz > which contains compiled drivers, and the HOWTO-Agere-11c11040-HDA.html > and agrsm_howto.txt > Boot with your -2.6.24-19-generic kernel > Unpack with > $ tar zxf agrsm*.tar.gz > > $ cd agrsm-ubuntu8.04.1-2.6.24-19-generic > Run the > $ sudo ./setup > > Follow through on the included directions.
