Ok, apologies to all for not explaining clearly enough (I hope), this
is exactly what I did... I just put in all the xxxxxx's in the email,
so as to not reveal the inner sanctum of my workings sending it
across the world wild web, etc. :). & the data below the $ sudo
gedit /etc/wvdial.conf in the edit program... was what was returned
after I saved the changes... to the wvdial.conf. & tried to dial
via $ sudo wvdial. Puzzling to me.

Here Henry you need to add your username, your password and the
phone number to connect to your ISP, and remove the ";"
Edit the file and put in all the information that is required so
that you can connect. If you connect from windows, copy that
information over to linux,
what is the username that you use? put it where your_username
phone, and password as well
$ sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf
[Dialer Defaults]
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Modem Type = Analog Modem
Phone = 1234567
ISDN = 0
Password = your_password_goes_here
New PPPD = yes
Username = your_username_goes_here
Modem = /dev/ttyS1
Baud = 115200
Then try the command
$ sudo wvdial
again. Does it work?
