As far as I can tell, nobody else seems to have the conflicting error
messages.
Can you try copying the file serial26.c from the alsa v17 tarball to the
source dir for ALSA15 tarball?
This is a newer version of the file and should resolve the serial error
messages you're getting below.
If not, let me know and I can send you a patch that should fix the error
you're getting:

With regards to reverting to the older version of ALSA, yes,
re-installing the kernel will fix this, since it refreshes the modules.
(this restores the original ALSA modules, replacing the ones that you
upgraded.)
Let me know what happens.
Once we can get either of the two agrsm packages to build properly, we
can work on the issue of matching the ALSA version to the package that
you could build.

I have made a make install with the ALSA 1.0.16. So probably my kernel is tainted by that version. How to set it like before? Would be a
'aptitude reinstall linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic' enough ?
