i actualy have installed ALSA 1.0.17 already.
the cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#1 says this:

> tar -jxvf alsa-driver-1.0.17.tar.bz2
> cd alsa-driver-1.0.17/
> ./configure
> make
> sudo make install
at this point the drivers should be installed.
Now, reboot your machine to load the new drivers (or you
can manually use modprobe to add/remove, after switching
to runlevel 3)
After reboot, open a terminal, and 'cat
/proc/asound/card0/codec#1'
Your output should be as follows:
Codec: LSI ID 1040
Address : 1
Vendor ID: 11c11040
Subsystem ID <your subsystem>
Revision Id: your revision
Modem Function Group: 0x1

stage, and I'll do my best to help you. Once we've gotten
everyone to this point, we'll continue.

succeeded, Bjorn has succeeded and others have not tried
anymore.
