Much thanks.  Which ALSA version is used in the 2008 Spring release?
We do have a success now under 2.6.25,
but have to make the USB code usage conditional upon <2.6.25

For your CPU=i686,  Mandriva Linux release 2008.1 with ALSA version 1.0.16
The Mandriva agrsm package should work for you, or the derivative
 dkms-agrsm-2.1.80-2mdv2009.0.i586.rpm
which you can also download from:
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/ltmodem/11c11040/
