Daniel.

Your PC has 2 High Defintion Audio cards:
-----------------
CLASS=0403, Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H
PCIDEV=8086:284b
SUBSYS=1734:1107

CLASS=0403, Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc RV630/M76 audio device
[Radeon HD 2600 Series]"
PCIDEV=1002:aa08
SUBSYS=1734:1107
----------------------

The Subsystem of one of them hosts your Motorola SM56 modem.
You might get better performance if you took the HDA card without the modem out,

The modem setup command should be:
# slmodemd -c GERMANY --alsa hw:0,6
for modems using /dev/pts/N  ports
Carrier Check  =  no
is necessary, because these ports are not (yet) sound competent.

>From "man pppd", the termination error 15 is:
15 The link was terminated because the peer is not responding to
echo requests.

I'll separately send you a scanModem update, which may be more informative.
