Dear Mr. Bor de Tor,

You need to read the manual for patch with command
man patch
Once you have read it calmly a few times to make sure that you 
understand, you apply the patch file to the initial unpatched file to 
produce the patchED file which you then compile as you would have done 
for the UNpatchED.
