The fitrst generation slamr was the driver for your modem hardware under 2.4 kernels. But there has now been a split in the code. Your hardware is now preferentially served by ALSA modem driver snd-intel8x0m plus the non-driver slmodemd, which has most of the COMM capabilties. slamr can however compete for the modem hardware inappropriately.
