Recompiling isn't necessary.  The major problem is that the
/dev/slamr0 is in RAM space, and doesn't survive shutdown. You can
 mknod -m 600 /dev/slamr0 c 242 0
Then load the drivers & etc.
or use the automation Antonio describes.
