Do not believe everything that they tell you.  You have to try it out for yourself.  There are some modems that are hard to setup, I agree, but there are many that work and you can find out by yourself.  There are many drivers available to get many PCI modems working with linux.  Get one and send us your ModemData.txt after you use scanModem.  Give it a chance :)
