I have run scanModem. Please find my ModemData.txt file attached.
I saw that it directed me to download and unpack SLMODEMD.gcc4.2.tar.gz.
#Download from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/
#the package SLMODEMD.gcc4.2.tar.gz having a compiled slmodemd.
Which I did.
I copied slmodemd to /usr/sbin
and made it executable with chmod +x
and also renamed the slmodemd in /usr/src/modules to slmodemd.old
I tried to run modprobe as suggested:

and then I tried to run slmodemd:
