gnome-ppp options

Dan,

Thanks for the gnome-ppp front end to wvdial.

But could you relate how the
  Gnome-ppp -> Setup -> Options -> Check Carrier Line
actually works? This is important to those using the slmodemd helper
application,
in service with the ALSA modem drivers and the Smartlink slamr and
slusb drivers.

Each of these drivers + slmodemd act through creation of supporting
symbolic link:
   /dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N
The /dev/pts/N ports are not yet Sound supporting, so it is
obligatory to use in /etc/wvdial.conf a line
  Carrier  Check  =  no

When I uncheck the gnome-ppp Option "Check Carrier Line"
There is no change in the gnome-ppp config file /home/UserName/.wvdial.conf

Could you please explain what and how this check off acts.

Thanks
