For
CPU=x86_64,  Linux version 2.6.22-14-generic Ubuntu
 analyzed by scanModem update of: 2008_11_01

with
 Class 0780: 11c1:0440 Communication controller: Agere Systems 56k WinModem
      Primary PCI_id  11c1:0440
 Support type needed or chipset:	Agere.DSP

 The modem has a Lucent/Agere/LSI Mars or Apollo DSP (digital signal
processing) chipset.
Support packages for 2.6.n kernels are at:
 http://phep2.technion.ac.il/linmodems/packages/ltmodem/kernel-2.6/martian/
, with current update martian-full-20071011.tar.gz
 See AgereDSP.txt for Details.

To support compiling you will need to install additional additional
required packages libc6-dev and linux-libc-dev. These can be
downloaded through http://packages.ubuntu.com. Do use the search
engine for practice. But the URLs you will get to are
http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/libdevel/libc6-dev-amd64
http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/download.pl?arch=amd64&file=pool%2Fmain%2Fl%2Flinux-source-2.6.22%2Flinux-libc-dev_2.6.22-14.47_amd64.deb&md5sum=4e4e23edc480c7c62356b7b994924bc9&arch=amd64&type=security
When they and their dependent packages are downloaded, they can be
co-installed by
$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb
Once you are online under Linux, such installation can be done by
automatically through commands like:
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install  libc6-dev linux-libc-dev
or using the graphical Aptitude front end.

Get these installs done, and download the
martian-full-20071011.tar.gz. I'll later send you some details about
the setup on your CPU=x86_64 system.
