Paul, This is the first cut guidance: --------------------------------------- Download from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/ the package SLMODEMD.gcc4.1.tar.gz having a compiled slmodemd. Unpack under Linux with: $ tar zxf SLMODEMD.gcc4.1.tar.gz which will unpack a SLMODEMD.gcc4.1 folder. Read instructions therein. But briefly, the modem is setup with command: sudo slmodemd -c AUSTRALIA --alsa hw:0,6 reporting dynamic creation of ports: /dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N , with N some number Read Smartlink.txt and Modem/YourSystem.txt for follow through guidance. -------------------------------------- There may be problems, because bringing service to a ALC883 host board required an update to ALSA version 1.0.15 resources. Report back on results with your ALC861system, and we will direct you through the upgrade if necessary. Also scanModem failed to parse out an expected file from within the /proc/asound/ diagnositc set. So please send me the ALSApault.tgz copy to look through.
