Amin,

 Browse http://linmodems.technion.ac.il and download scanModem.gz .
 Within a Linux partition
    gunzip scanModem.gz
 To make it executable:
    chmod +x scanModem
 Run diagnositics with:
    ./scanModem

This will report out the chipset of your Lucent. There are several
types requiring diverse software.

If your System SuSE openSUSE 10.2 (i586) with kernel 2.6.18.2-34-default
was served by ltmodem software under earlier kernels, the ltmodem
packages are no longer competent for kernels after 2.6.15

Rather at http://phep2.technion.ac.il/linmodems/packages/ltmodem/kernel-2.6/martian/
use the martian-full-20071011.tar.gz
