Using ALSA resources of version 1.0.13 provided in Ubuntu Feisty1.0.13 under kernels -2.6.20the dialout failed with:<275.682336> hw:0,6: new state: MODEM_IDLE<275.682361> hw:0,6: modem report result: 3 (NO CARRIER)<275.682397> hw:0,6: modem report result: 4 (ERROR)---------------even though there was the required "No Carrier" line in /etc/wvdial.conf
If is possible that the ALSA fix is present already in the version1.0.14 code, however 1.0.14 code lacks a fix needed simply for compiling under2.6.18 and later kernel resources.
The instructions for such ALSA upgrades are inhttp://linmodems.technion.ac.il/bigarch/archive-seventh/msg02144.html
Well done Robikbun, particularly for a Linux Newbie!!.

Thank you for your help. Now I can dial to internet using Ubuntu. After installing linux-kernel-devel and restart, I can setup modem. But looks like ALSA driver haven't updated yet. I run again scanModemand it shows us the version still alsa-1.0.13.<<<Comment from MarvS -- Only the version 1.015rc3 of alsa-libs andalsa-driver were used in the compilation of the replacementsnd-hda-intel audo+modem driver, while the 1.0.13 version is outputfrom alsa-utils, which was not updated>>>But it doesn't matter since I can connect to internet. This is first e-mail using ubuntu. Thanks a lot Marvin,
Regards,

Robihun
