There is NO other driver under Linux for Conexant modem than the driver family supplied by Linuxant. The Linuxant driver by definition is not free, but Linuxant, considering occasional users who can live with 14.4kbauds without FAX, waives the fee if you accept the limitation.

Note that the Linuxant HSF driver, by far the most frequently used, is available for free in the unlimited version if you own a certain Dell computer of the Inspiron series, with an HDA based HSF modem, running some version of Ubuntu.
