Maykel,
>From your Linuxant diagnostics, it is certainly not a Conexant soft modem within Modem: ALi Corporation M5457 AC'97 Modem Controller> Primary PCI_id 10b9:5457> Subsystem PCI_id 10cf:1130
But contradicting this 10b9:5457 designation is: /proc/asound/card0/ali5451which would imply an ALI5451 "sound modem"Also the content:Sep 12 14:13:23 gloria kernel: <p803.352016> slamr: mc97 codec is<83><84>v66Sep 11 14:13:23 gloria kernel: slamr: mc97 codec is <83><84>v66has not been encountered before.
There is a suspicion that the modem card assembler did some kludge ofspare parts, producing something distinctly non-standard which worksunder Microsoft (only?).
But try the setup appropriate to an ALI5451 modem# slmodemd -s -c USA --alsa hw:0,1hw:0,0 is typical the sound card and hw:0.1 the modem
You need to use the ALSA competent slmodemd included in theSLMODEMD.gcc.4.1.tar.gz athttp://linmodems.technion.il/packages/smartlink/as the one in the slamr package is not ALSA proficient.
To get an information dump on this modem type run:# ./scanModem test 10b9:5451 1179:0001
Also browse the Smartlink.txt for a broader background
