Daniel,

ScanModem reports that there is a sharing/IRQ problem

Modem interrupt assignment and sharing:
 11:          1   IO-APIC-fasteoi   acpi, VIA82XX-MODEM
 --- Bootup diagnostics for card in PCI slot 00:07.6 ----
[   47.780547] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:07.6[C] -> Link [LNKC] ->
GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ 11
[ 47.780560] PCI: VIA VLink IRQ fixup for 0000:00:07.6, from 5 to 11
[ 47.783216] PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:07.6 to 64

 === Finished modem firmware and bootup diagnostics section. ===
 === Next deducing cogent software ===

This needs to be taken care of, so that the modem can work. Read
carefully some of the files in the Modem/ folder like Bootup.txt or
Boot.txt.

CodecFiles not found
 For candidate modem in PCI bus: 00:07.6
  Class 0780: 1106:3068 Communication controller: VIA Technologies,
Inc. AC'97 Modem Controller
     Primary PCI_id  1106:3068
 An ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) modem driver: snd-via82xx-modem
 provides Low Level support enabling contact with the modem hardware.
 For all BUT Conexant chip soft modems (using hsfmodem software)
 complementary High Level support is through a Smartlink utility: slmodemd

Download from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/
 the package SLMODEMD.gcc4.1.tar.gz having a compiled slmodemd. Unpack
under Linux with:
       $ tar zxf SLMODEMD.gcc4.1.tar.gz
 and read instructions therein. But briefly, the modem is setup with command:
       sudo slmodemd -c YOUR_COUNTRY --alsa modem:1
 reporting dynamic creation of ports:
       /dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N   , with N some number
 Read Smartlink.txt and Modem/YourSystem.txt for follow through guidance.

Here you have two choices either SLMODEMD.gcc4.1.tar.gz or
SLMODEMD-1.0.13.tar.gz. The latter is the one you should try first,
if it does not respond try the other one gcc4.1. However the IRQ
problem should be taken care of to ensure that the modem can respond.

Report back if you have trouble/questions.

Regards,

Antonio
