Marv,
I have done it slightly differently.
I have created links of filetype tar.gz from the corresponding tgz files which you asked to rename. This, to prevent possible corruption of URL's referring to tgz files in the archive.

and

please rename the several FileNames.tgz to FileNames.tar.gz

Andy,

Linux (as Unix) is CASE SENSITIVE.
ubuntu and Ubuntu are not the same thing, Ubuntu shown in ModemData.txt
exists at my site where you looked for the driver, but ubuntu does not.
In addition, /ubuntu will not be found even if spelled Ubuntu, because
the path given in the doc and existing on the site is STRICTLY
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu
Next time you report a missing file, please make SURE to exactly
reproduce what you typed and lead nowhere. It is enough work to fix
existing errors without having to guess what the user really typed and
approximately reported.
Thanks in advance for your understanding.

LG Electronics, model LM-156N.

In a number of places in the scanModem documents the home site address
is quoted without the "ac.",
