Ian, UK, Ubuntu 7.04 kernel To: Ian Lester <iain@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> OK, For reasons still obscure, the bootup sl-modem-daemon action failed Just manually do: $ sudo rm /dev/ttySL0 though likely unnecessary. Next $ sudo slmodemd -c UK modem:1 and there should be announced: /dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N N some numer If successful, leave slmodemd running and open another console/Tab $ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf should find the modem Edit in your personal info with: $ sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf removing the ; and replacing the <xxxx> and add a line Carrier Check = no Save and try a dialout with: $ sudo wvdial Read tje docs for details MarvS
