Concerning the snd-intel-hda + slmodemd bug: error: period size 48 is not supported by playback snd-hda-intel maintiner tiwai concludes: The period size change in the driver side is a correct fix. The problem is that slmodemd requires too little period size which basically doesn't work. It worked simply because number of periods is big (32). So presently there will be released in ALSA 1.0.4 or maybe 1.0.5 an snd-hda-intel fix, to complement the "temporary" hack in slmodemd MarvS ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: bugtrack@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <bugtrack@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: Aug 15, 2007 9:56 AM Subject: [ALSA - driver 0003130]: slmodem don't work anymore To: marvin.stodolsky@xxxxxxxxx The following issue has been RESOLVED. ====================================================================== https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=3130 ====================================================================== Reported By: contadino Assigned To: tiwai ====================================================================== Project: ALSA - driver Issue ID: 3130 Category: GENERIC - dummy Reproducibility: always Severity: major Priority: normal Status: resolved Distribution: kubuntu Kernel Version: 2.6.20-15-generic Resolution: duplicate Duplicate: 3213 Fixed in Version: ====================================================================== Date Submitted: 05-30-2007 09:34 CEST Last Modified: 08-15-2007 15:56 CEST ====================================================================== Summary: slmodem don't work anymore Description: error with dial attempts (internal modem with slmodem, one for every dialing attempt) while wvdial ( same .conf with carrier check = off) gives "no carrier" messages very fastly: error: period size 48 is not supported by playback (64) error: period size 48 is not supported by playback (64) error: period size 48 is not supported by playback (64) It was working well with 1.0.11 on edgy eft ====================================================================== Relationships ID Summary ---------------------------------------------------------------------- duplicate of 0003213 NO CARRIER immediatly after DT command ====================================================================== ---------------------------------------------------------------------- stodolsk - 06-02-07 13:46 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The hardware is High Definition Audio card Intel Corporation 82801G with PCI ID 8086:27d8 and Subsytem 1179:0001 having softmodem chip 0x11c13026 /proc/asound/pcm has ------------------------------- 00-06: Si3054 Modem : Si3054 Modem : playback 1 : capture 1 00-02: ALC262 Analog : ALC262 Analog : capture 2 00-00: ALC262 Analog : ALC262 Analog : playback 1 : capture 2 and the modem formerly functioned with activation command: $ sudo slmodemd -c USA --alsa hw:0,6 Under KUbuntu Edgy with ALSA release 1.0.11 and kernel 2.6.17-11-generic Replacements of snd-hda-intel + dependent drivers with those of versions 1.0.12 and 1.0.14rc2 did not alleviate the problem with ALSA 1.0.13 with failure response: error: mixer setup: attach hw:0 error: No such device ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1351:(_snd_pcm_hw_open) Invalid value for card error: alsa setup: cannot open playback device 'hw:0,6': No such device error: cannot setup device `hw:0,6' At attempted use of wvdial then returns the error: period size 48 is not supported by playback (64) However reintstallation of a kernel+modules package of version 2.6.17-11-generic did restore modem function This same error has been reported to DISCUSS@xxxxxxxxxxxxx by a few others.
