There exists a package

http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu/slamr-2.6.20-16-generic.tar.gz

with a precompiled slamr module for your kernel. It is recommended
that you read

http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/Ubuntu/slamr_Read.txt

for instructions on how to setup your modem. After setting up your
modem, you can
run
$ sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
which should find /dev/ttySL0 which is the modem port. If you run
into trouble don't hesitate to report back for help.

Regards,

Antonio
