martian modem not working with kernel-2.6.22.1-27.fc7, wvdial says modem not responding

Dear all,

I have recently updated to latest fedora kernel and martian modem does
not seem to work.

Thanks for any pointers given.  Will update other box to test slmodemd
and see if problems arise there.
