Andrey,

Do run scanModem as Jacques suggests to get a dump of current information.
But for 2.6.8-2-386 it would be best to get the ltmodem replacement:
martian-full-20061203.tar.gz from
http://phep2.technion.ac.il/linmodems/packages/ltmodem/kernel-2.6/martian/
It does use the version 8.30 Lucent/Agere code.

We need several details to help you.
In particular we need to know which Linux kernel you use. The ltmodem
driver which you have chosen to use may not be the right driver for your
kernel.
The best to help us is to execute the script scanModem as explained in
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/welcome.hmtl#scanModem
and send us the file ModemData.txt which it will create, if you do not
understand what this file tells you to do, without help.
