Cant connect using USB/adsl modem

Hi there

As you can guess, I'm new to this forum (and to Ubuntu/Linux).

I have broadband, and a ADSL 504 usb modem. I've disabled the internal 56k (dial up) modem in the bios, and plugged in the USB modem to a USB port. I need to get UBUNTU(Linux) to recognize my modem - it doesn't.

Is it because I haven't got the relevant drivers for MY particular modem???

I've used the modem before on a Windows XP system, with a broadband (up to 8/mbits ) connection, and connected fine. As you see I've run 'scanModem' and attached 'ModemData.txt' so you can see for yourselves - and make sense of what's going on.

Another question is: If I were to attach a wireless USB adaptor (Netgear WG111) would Ubuntu automatically pick up my Netgear router, enabling me to connect to the internet????

Hope you can help, I've just joined the Ubuntu community ('Newbun).

Looking forward eagerly to your reply.

Newbun

ps: Since I've installed Ubuntu 7.04, I like the look and feel of it....just need to get onto the net, to make full use of the system

Modem or host audio card candidates have firmware information:

PCI slot	PCI ID SubsystemID	Name
----------	---------	---------	--------------
00:01.6 1039:7013 Modem: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] AC'97 Modem Controller

Modem interrupt assignment and sharing:

--- Bootup diagnositcs for card in PCI slot 00:01.6 ----
[ 31.757173] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:01.6[C] -> Link [LNKC] -> GSI 3 (level, low) -> IRQ 3
[ 31.757191] ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:00:01.6 disabled

The PCI slot 00:01.6 of the modem card may be disabled early in
a bootup process, but then enabled later. If modem drivers load
but the modem is not responsive, read Bootup.txt about possible fixes.
Send dmesg.txt along with ModemData.txt to discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
