Janez,

The first thing to do know to begin checking if the modem works
is to give it a dial command to any phone number) other than the one the modem is connected to) near you or arranged with somebody, to verify

I foolishly thought the driver would support fax :) But it apparently is not true. I did not actually try to connect to another modem.
I wonder what the additional coredrv.patch does, which is not applied below.
Can you help further? I've sent ModemData.txt already.

Jacques
Functionality of the Intel tarball confirmed by another User too.
Please put in the Intel folder, not Philippes/ subfolder.
The tarball includes the message below.

I compiled the driver of 537EP in Feisty kernel (2.6.20). See it
http://cvs.archlinux.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/network/intel-537/?cvsroot= Ex tra&only_with_tag=CURRENT
Download all patchs(*.patch) and
http://archlinux.org/~james/kernel26beyond-modules/intel-537-beyond/Inte l- 537EP-2.70.95.0-suse9.3.tgz
After that:
patch -Np0 -i ../flip.patch
patch -Np0 -i ../compile.patch
patch -Np1 -i ../module-parm.patch
patch -Np1 -i ../pm_unregister.patch
patch -Np1 -i ../asmlinkage.patch
patch -Np0 -i ../kernel-2.6.19.patch
patch -Np0 -i ../kernel-2.6.20.patch
make 537
make install

Intel ceased updates about two years ago.
Phillipe has been doing maintenance irregularly.
He does this to keep contact with/support a relative in Russia having
an Intel356EP modem.
Hopefullly he will presently update the code once more.
