Agashe,

First
$ sudo modprobe ungrab-winmodem
to free up resources. Then there should be a success with:
$ sudo modprobe slamr

I have serched this list and found one mail from Sasha suggesting to remove the module slamr and load it with:
sudo modprobe slamr debug=4

but the result is same.

Your modem PCTel Inc HSP56 MicroModem is supported through slmodem-2.9.11-20070430.tar.gz, and ungrab-winmodem-20070430.tar.gz

134d:2189 is a PCTel HSP56 MicroModem 688T modem with the Oasis chipset.
Under 2.6.n kernels, it is only supported through the Smartlink slamr.ko driver.

Download the files and

http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/ungrab-winmodem-20070430.tar.gz http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/slmodem-2.9.11-20070430.tar.gz extract them
$ tar -zxvf ungrab-winmodem-20070430.tar.gz
and
$ tar -zxvf slmodem-2.9.11-20070430.tar.gz

You will need kernel-sources/ for compiling

If compiling is necessary packages must be installed, providing:
linux-headers-2.6.20-15-generic

Antonio
