i never formally asked for help but you guys are amazing. getting this modem to work enabled me to wipe windows from my laptop and i'm much happier for it. :-) fwiw i was having problems in remote areas that sounded exactly like one of the threads. turned out to be all in the init string. v34 even though v92 under windows. anyway i'm going to unsubscribe so i can manage my inbox. but i owe you guys a huge thanks. excellent utility in scanmodem and excellent advice. :-) mike
