Once you believe that the communication is established, use a new window
for:
sudo /sbin/ifconfig > problem.txt
and then
sudo /sbin/route -n >> problem.txt
and finally
sudo cat /etc/resolv.conf >> problem.txt
and send us the resulting file problem.txt
If Ubuntu fails to find /sbin/ifconfig and/or /sbin/route, use
sudo / -name ifconfig
to find ifconfig and repeat for route
