Hi all,
I'm trying to make this modem work on a notebook. On window$ its probed
as Agere Modem.
I have compiled alsa 1.0.14rc3 drivers, loaded the modules and the
ModemData.txt generated from scanModem is attached.
The problem is:
when I try to connect using kppp I get: NO CARRIER.
I have already tried set kppp to not wait for signal, but I've got the
same error.
sorry for my english,
can someone help? (I've tried the forums, google, a lot of things, but
have no success with this)

Lacking a dsp (digital signal processing) chip, the modem is a software
intensive or "softmodem" type. Its primary controller manages the traffic
with the CPU. But the software needed is specified in the Subsystem.

Download from http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/
the package SLMODEMD.gcc4.1.tar.gz having a compiled slmodemd. Unpack under Linux with:
$ tar zxf SLMODEMD.gcc4.1.tar.gz
and read instructions therein. But briefly, the modem is setup with command:
slmodemd -c YOUR_COUNTRY --alsa hw:0,6
reporting dynamic creation of ports:
/dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N , with N some number
Read Smartlink.txt and Modem/YourSystem.txt for follow through guidance.
