Phil,

Please run scanModem again as:
$ sudo ./scanModem
to hoperfuilly get a more extensive output.

Please return the output of
$ lspci -s  00:14.2
$ lspci -s  00:14.2 -nv

Also get from http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/full/downloads-ubuntu-x86.php
the 	hsfmodem_7.60.00.02full_k2.6.17_11_generic_ubuntu_i386.deb.zip
Under Linux unpack with:
$ unzip hsf*.zip
and try the install
$ dpkg -i hsf*.deb

If it succeeds in is a Conexant soft modem hosted on the Audio card.
