Matt,   Thanks for the info.
All,  The Root command /etc/init.d/sl-modem-daemon restartdoes in sequence  stopping slmodemd  removing the driver  installing the driver  restarting slmodemdSo these are the actions called by putting the command within the/etc/acpi/resume.d/  set.   The sl-modem-daemon package with its setupscripts are maintained by Eduard Bloch.
Given the setup problems occassionally encountered, i think it wouldbe useful to add a /etc/acpi/resume.d/86_slmodem.sh to Eduard'spackage,  BUT it should be inactive as installed, only to be activatedby the User after all modem setup problems were mastered.
