Krishan, Under Redhat Linux version 2.6.9-5.EL the modem Class 0703: 10b9:545a Modem: ALi Corporation SmartLink SmartPCI563 56K needs to be setup successively with: # modprobe ungrab-winmodem # modprobe slamr Under the UDEV file system, /dev/.udev.tdb ports have to be recreated after each bootup. # mknod -m 600 /dev/slamr0 c 242 0 In Smartlink.txt see the "For automation" paragraph for alternative node creation. With the node created $ slmodemd -c USA /dev/slamr0 should annouce port creation: /dev/ttySL0 --> /dev/pts/N , N some number If this is successful, open another console and try: $ wvdialconf wvtest and report whether the modem is detected.
