Marvin,
the --dumpdiag option hels finding why the driver does not work.
> + modprobe -v /dev/ttySHCF
> modprobe: Can't locate module /dev/ttySHCF
means that is is not installed.
Thus you MUST have received earlier error messages when running the Debian install command (dkpg).

Do you have a compiler? Try gcc to see !
Do you have kernel sources? Do find / -iname 'kernel*' to find them.

Where to take them from?
http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/ has a link to Downloads, "preferred sites".
Select one and browse.

I really appreciate the help I've received to this point (from Jacques
Goldberg). I have successfully downloaded the Debian package (method
B) installation of the source code.

Below is what is received when issuing the command, "hcfpciconfig
--dumpdiag". I am running DSL (Damn Small Linux 2.4.26) on an 800 MHz
pentium III. I believe I need the kernel source and a C-compiler for
DSL. Do you know where/how to obtain the kernel source? hcfpciconfig
tells me to run "apt-get install kernel-headers-2.4.26" but I don't
think that will work without being connected to the internet -- right?

Thanks,
Marvin
