I mark packets with iptables really not considering at all interfaces
(apart, of course, when i've to mark packets that come or go to some
particular interfaces).
I use extensively connection traking, thus restoring previous marks
from connection traking, mark packets not just marked, and then save
them back.


I've found this easy and sufficiently accurate.
