KVM resource allocation

Hello,

How does KVM handle resource allocation? The vSphere Resource Management Guide (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r41/vsp_41_resource_mgmt.pdf) describes how VMware environments have three resource allocation setting methods: shares, reservation, and limit*. What does KVM have that is comparable to that, and can you provide any documentation? I looked throughout the http://www.linux-kvm.org web site, but didn't see anything on this.

Thanks very much!

Denise Masi

*The 'shares' method specifies the relative importance of a virtual machine (or resource pool). If a virtual machine has twice as many shares of a resource as another virtual machine, it is entitled to consume twice as much of that resource when these two virtual machines are competing for resources. In Resource Allocation Reservation, a reservation specifies the guaranteed minimum allocation for a virtual machine. In Resource Allocation Limit, an upper bound is specified for CPU, memory, or storage I/O resources that can be allocated to a virtual machine.
