There is a kernel driver for -vga std too ;)

Didn't try on ppc though.  There is a funky #ifdef TARGET_I386 in
vbe_portio_list[], no idea why, but it makes me think a little tweak
could be needed to make it fly.  There shouldn't be any major roadblocks
though.
