Hello Steve: According to you bisect result, maybe the issue of the event index in qemu. Looks like you didn't use vhost according to your qemu-kvm cli, could you please try to see whether the 3.3-rc6 guest works under vhost backend (-netdev tap,vhost=on,id=XXX -device virtio-net-pci,netdev=XXX ... ).
