freebsd guest issue some sort of latency and slow installation via -cdrom flag

I've got an E5420 system, 8 gigs of ram 2x72gig (10k rpm if i recall)
RAID1 (hp Dl360) and i was wondering if anyone has attempted to
install 7.2 or 8.0-amd64 installation iso. the installation rate is
terrible, it crawls at about <5kb/s if i recall.

below is how i start the virtual machine

qemu-system-x86_64 drive.raw -vga std -net
nic,model=e1000,macaddr=00:11:22:33:44:55 -monitor stdio -vnc :2 -smp
4 -m 4096 -net tap -localtime -cdrom 8.0-RELEASE-amd64-disc1.iso

any suggestions on what to do ? the reason why i say this is cause as
i use the system, i see some minor issues of latency at random times,
whether it's gcc or in the middle of configure for something so tiny,
unfortunately i dont know how to else to test the latency, i've also
tried -smp 1.

Linux vm 2.6.32.5 #3 SMP Sat Jan 23 16:08:38 CST 2010 x86_64 Intel(R)
Xeon(R) CPU E5420 @ 2.50GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
0.12.1 (qemu-kvm-0.12.1.2)

thanks in advance
