guest crashes in identify_cpu

Hi,

I've filed https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199939 but am unsure
if anyone is looking at it.

Essentially we have a case of guests being able to run under 4.9 but
crashing and burining under 4.16/4.17. They die just into the kernel
startup sequence, as near as I can tell. All else (QEMU version
and config) is static on the host. The difference is the kernel version
it is booted into.

The host CPU is AMD EPYC 7281.

There is a screenshot of the error and kernel configs in the bug.

If there is more info that is required please shout and I'll do what I
can ASAP. We've got some brand new servers that are gathering dust as,
with 4.9, the network card drivers are unstable (but they work fine with
4.17 :/).
