For what it's worth, I was able to fix this in kvm
(1:84+dfsg-0ubuntu5) jaunty by applying:
 * http://svn.savannah.gnu.org/viewvc/trunk/exec.c?r1=6601&r2=6628&pathrev=6628&root=qemu&view=patch

That patch was attached to:
