I like what you've done except for the function pointer part (which isn't needed because we can't have a single kernel binary that works across e500 and 400). I've gone one step further and moved some 44x code around. I think after the two patches attached below booke.c will be safe for e500. kvm: ppc: create struct kvm_vcpu_44x and introduce container_of() accessor This patch doesn't yet move all 44x-specific data into the new structure, but is the first step down that path.
