NASA UPDATES PLANS FOR SPACE SHUTTLE EXTERNAL TANK ARRIVAL

The redesigned External Tank that will launch the Space Shuttle 
Discovery on its return to flight mission is making good progress en 
route to NASA's Kennedy Space Center, Fla. The barge carrying the 
External Tank now is expected to arrive at the Turn Basin at KSC at 
about 1 p.m. today. Other media events associated with the tank's 
arrival are still scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 6, and Friday, Jan. 7. 


Media who wish to view the barge at the turn basin can do so through 
4:30 p.m. today. 

The updated schedule is as follows. All times are subject to further 
revision. 

Jan. 6: 
8 a.m.: Media must arrive at the KSC News Center 
9 a.m.: Photo Opportunity - Tank rolls off Barge to Vehicle Assembly 
Building 
11 a.m.: Live News Conference - Deputy Associate Administrator for 
International Space Station and Space Shuttle Programs Michael 
Kostelnik, Space Shuttle Program Manager Bill Parsons, External Tank 
Project Manager Sandy Coleman, and Director of Shuttle Processing 
Mike Wetmore 
12:30 p.m.: Workshop - External Tank Processing at KSC 
2 p.m.: Photo Opportunity - External Tank in the Vehicle Assembly 
Building transfer aisle 

Jan. 7: 
7:30 a.m.: Media must arrive to travel to the Vehicle Assembly 
Building 
8:30 a.m.: Tour of Vehicle Assembly Building to see new Orbiter Boom 
Sensor System 
Noon: Media must arrive at KSC News Center for travel to Shuttle 
Landing Facility 
1:15 p.m.: STS-114 crew available for photos and questions at Shuttle 
Landing Facility 

Space for the events is limited. Media who want to attend must contact 
the KSC Press Site (321/867-2468). Media who do not possess KSC 
credentials should submit their request via the new online 
accreditation Web site:

e-mail kandy.t.warren@nasa.gov and include the following information 
on their organization's letterhead: full legal name, title, 
organization, address, telephone number, date of birth, place of 
birth, social security number and country of citizenship. 

Since the tour includes operational facilities that deal in hazardous 
materials, all who enter must be properly dressed in long pants and 
closed shoes with low heels. Sleeveless shirts are not allowed.
