My kernel .config contains the following items, and I had tested
on the kernel.

CONFIG_ARCH_SPARSEMEM_ENABLE=y
CONFIG_SPARSEMEM_MANUAL=y
CONFIG_SPARSEMEM=y
CONFIG_SPARSEMEM_STATIC=y
# CONFIG_SPARSEMEM_VMEMMAP_ENABLE is not set

Thanks
