I use gmane as well, only with (the gtk-based) pan, not knode. (IDR the original reason for deciding on pan rather than knode over a decade ago, tho it might have had to do with binaries support, particularly yenc, which shouldn't be a problem on mailing lists, but from kde 4.7 I migrated off of anything kdepim related due to the akonadi infestation killing kmail's stability, and once I was off of it there, since everything kdepim related was planned to eventually get akonadified as well, I got off of anything that came close and now won't let anything kdepim related /near/ my system.)
