Well, this is more or less the procedure I was looking for - yet, I fail to 
find a "Build" menu in my kate (3.9.4, kubuntu 12.10). What does it need to 
have it around?

Furthermore, if not using kate: Are there any other KDE aware programmer / 
text editors to be used for scripting languages? What do you use, if any?
