Chromium, OTOH, is the freedomware version, but I've not run it either. However, I don't believe it's kde based UI, probably gtk, so kde shouldn't have much to do with it at all. Firefox I know is gtk based. As such, kde has little to do with its loading speed or that of its file chooser. Regardless of that, I do happen to know of a firefox option that might help and is easy enough to change that it's worth checking. However, it's not normally exposed via GUI. You must either have the configuration mania extension installed or edit it using about:config. If you have configuration mania installed, open it (edit, configuration mania), switch to the UI tab and the Others subtab, and at the bottom, toggle the "Use XUL filepicker even if system filepicker is available" checkbox. OK out. Without configuration mania, type about:config in the address bar, type platform in the filter (or platform_file if there's too many entries with just platform, here there were just three), and find the ui.allow_platform_file_picker entry. Doubleclick that to toggle true/ false. Whichever way you set it (about:config or configuration mania), restart firefox just to be sure (I don't think it's necessary for this option, but just in case), and see if it's better or worse or doesn't matter. Since it's a simple toggle, you can always go back and reverse your choice to change it back. -- Duncan - List replies preferred. No HTML msgs.
