Weird. Can you run 'locate firefox.desktop' or alternatively 'locate 
kfmclient_html.desktop'. If either of them are found you could try to set it 
with:

  xdg-mime default whatever.desktop text/html application/xhtml+xml

But it is rather odd that it doesn't just work out of the box...
