It looks as if I don't have anything using XDG_CACHE_HOME yet, so that hadn't come up, but the pointer is useful as I don't like: a) dot dirs (I don't like stuff hiding on me!). b) anything located directly in $HOME (which is why they're using a dot- dir in the first place, to avoid cluttering the $HOME listing).
